Here are some common questions and there answers in regards to selling stock images.

Question: what is a stock image/ photo website?

Answer:  It is a website that you can sell images or in some cases footage and make money.

Question: What does “rights managed” mean?

Answer: It basically means that your image/photo is exclusive to the company you are selling your image to. Whilst you own the image or photograph the company ends up in control of your image or photograph.

Question: What does “Royalty Free” mean?

Answer: What it means is that a one-time fee or subscription gives the right to use a photograph or image for the use according to the terms agreed upon from the stock image website. It also means that normally there is no license fees being paid for further use of the image or photograph.


Question: What does “Exclusivity” mean?

Answer: it means your image is exclusive to the stock image website that you have your image or photograph on.

What Type Of Files Can Be Submitted?

There are several different types of image that can be accepted these can be found below.

Digital Photographs = Photographs taken with a digital camera, most of the websites only accept the photographs as jpegs.

Digital Created Artwork = images created using a 2d or 3d bit of software such as adobe Photoshop or poser, these should be jpegs.

Vector Graphics = Vector graphics are basically 2D graphics, one example of some software that is vector graphic based is Adobe Illustrator. Vector graphics are saved as Eps file format.

Footage = Some stock image/ photo websites accept footage that is either live action footage taken with a digital video camera or it could also be animated footage created within a computer.
